Which CO₂ cylinder should I choose for my sparkling water machine?

Which CO₂ cylinder should I choose for my sparkling water machine?

Summary

Are you shopping for a new CO refill and unsure which type and colour of cylinder to choose? There are two types of cylinders that work with 100% of the machines on the market. To find out which CO cylinder to choose, simply identify your device's fastening system. Here is a guide to help you determine with certainty which CO cylinder is compatible with your sparkling water maker.

What is a CO cylinder?

A CO cylinder is simply an aluminum tank containing food-grade carbon dioxide gas under pressure. It's the essential component that instantly transforms your tap water into sparkling water. Depending on the degree of carbonation, a CO cylinder can produce up to 60 litres of sparkling water. This means you avoid buying hundreds of single-use plastic bottles per year: it's a winning solution for the planet, your budget, and your back, which will no longer have to carry heavy water packs!

Purple cylinder — For screw-in machines

The purple cylinder is compatible with all machines on the market that use a screw-in system, also called a "twist" system. This universal CO refill format remains the most common on the Canadian market.

It works with:

  • SodaStreamᴹᴰ: Fizzi, One Touch, Crystal, Jet, Genesis, Source and Power.

  • High-end brands: Aarke, Breville, and Smeg.

  • Other brands: Ninja Thirsti, DrinkMate, and the ChefClub machine sold by IGA.

  • Indigo Soda: Perfectly suited to all our machine models.

Turquoise Cylinder — For clip-on machines

The turquoise cylinder (Easy Connect) is a compatible alternative designed for SodaStreamᴹᴰ Quick Connect models, often identified by their pink cylinders. This modern mechanism requires no screwing: simply insert the bottle and lock it into place with a single motion until you hear a click.

It works with:

  • The latest SodaStreamᴹᴰ Art, Terra, Duo, Gaia and Enso models.

Technical Note: Some electrical appliances or SodaStreamᴹᴰ Mix or E-Terra models may require firmer pressure on the button due to the stiffness of internal springs.

FAQ

Are Indigo Soda cylinders compatible with SodaStream®?

Yes. The purple cylinder replaces the blue screw-in model, and the turquoise cylinder replaces the pink Quick Connect model. The gas quality is identical, but the solution is more local.

Where can I exchange my empty CO₂ refills?

You can make exchanges at thousands of partner retail locations across Canada, including many grocery and hardware stores in Quebec. Simply return your empty cylinder of any brand to get a reduced price on your Indigo Soda refill.

Why does my sparkling water machine require more pressure with a new cylinder?

This depends on your type of machine, but it has been reported that electric machines are more frequently affected. The safety valve and springs of the machine can offer some resistance. We therefore advise you to press the carbonation button more firmly or for a longer period to resolve this situation.
